Cipher Solvers

Activity Overview

In this code breaking activity, students are challenged to identify patterns, unravel clues, and triangulate a point on a treasure map.

Objectives

  • Students will discover how to encrypt and decrypt a message.
  • Students will learn what a Caesar cipher is and use it to solve a
    riddle.
  • Students will find equations of lines given two points on the line.
  • Students will solve systems of linear equations to find vertices of
    triangles.
  • Students will find equations of lines that are perpendicular
    bisectors of given segments.

About the Lesson

Cipher Solvers challenges your students to identify patterns, unravel clues and triangulate a point on a treasure map.

It’s an ideal opportunity for students to have fun solving problems while exploring, analyzing and understanding concepts like:

  • Equations of lines through points
  • Midpoints of segments
  • Equations of perpendicular lines
  • Intersections of lines
